Safety permitting, avoid over-flying nearby residential areas during departure or arrival. Follow these procedures when safety, weather and ATC instructions allow. Runways 11-29/27 are the preferred arrival runways for all turbo-jet and turbo-fan powered aircraft, turbo-props weighing more than 12,500 pounds, four-engine aircraft and surplus military aircraft weighing more than 12,500 pounds.

No straight-in arrivals to runway 15 unless required by safety or wind conditions.

Departing 27L/R:

Make a right crosswind turn over San Leandro Bay until reaching I-880 (Nimitz) freeway and then proceed according to ATC instructions. Straight-out departures are not allowed, not only for noise abatement but also because of jet aircraft departing runway 29. Runway 27L is the preferred touch-and-go runway.

Departing 33:

Make right crosswind departure and overfly San Leandro Bay until reaching I-880 (Nimitz) freeway and then proceed according to ATC instructions; no straight out or left crosswind/downwind departures.

Departing 29:

VFR aircraft that depart this runway and are proceeding northbound will be instructed to fly straight-out for at least two miles, or climb to 1,500 feet prior to commencing a right turn.

Runway 29 is the preferred departure runway, and runway 11 is the preferred arrival runway (as applicable) for the following aircraft:

Turbo-jet and turbo-fan powered aircraft;

Turbo-props weighing more than 12,500 pounds;

Four-engine reciprocating powered aircraft;

Surplus military aircraft weighing more than 12,500 pounds.

Quiet Hours Program

During the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. local, aircraft departing the North Field should utilize runways 9R/L or runway 15. North bound aircraft make a left downwind departure, south or westbound departures make a right crosswind departure towards the Bay. Otherwise depart straight out until reaching I-880. If conditions preclude the use of these procedures, then depart runway 29.
